Maple Valley, N.S. – Police are searching for the man who raped and killed a 15-year-old girl and stabbed a woman in the town’s downtown area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, a high school student, was found dead in her apartment in Maple Grove on Monday morning, police said.

Police said she was strangled with a cord wrapped around her neck.

Investigators said the victim was the first person found at the scene and the murder was committed in the city’s downtown.

“This is a murder that is still unsolved and we are working with the Crown (lawyer) to gather the evidence to bring charges,” police Chief Mike Sperry said.

“This is still a big case and we have a lot of work to do.”

Police were searching for a man, whose identity was not released, in connection with the murder of a 15 year old girl and stabbing of a woman.

She was found strangled, stabbed, in the chest and was taken to hospital, but she later died.

No arrests have been made in the case.

In the days following the attack, a Facebook group called “Love for Maple Valley” was set up and was shared over 1,000 times, Sperrry said, and the Maple Police Service began a campaign to raise awareness for the case and to help raise funds to help the victim’s family.

“We are hoping that by sharing this, that the public is able to raise the funds to get the victim back, as well as her family, and to support them,” Spery said.

Police said they have spoken to some of the suspects involved, and will be releasing more details about the case in coming days.
